Wedding Video - Q and A

Wedding Video - Q and A

There are questions that we get asked by many Bride and Grooms and although we are happy to explain these each time, it seemed worth putting them together in one place for those who stumble across this Blog page.
What's the difference between a Traditional Wedding Package and your Wedding Marryoke Package?
Traditional wedding videos are what most people will have seen. A wedding film of your day, set to music and audio recorded during the day too. Whilst some video may be referred to as Cinematic or Documentary, the style still fall under the 'Traditional Wedding Video' label.
A Marryoke is a more recent 'twist' that has become very popular. The Bride and Groom choose a pop song and on their wedding day, we arrive to film them and their guests all miming along to short lines from the song throughout the day. We then put the footage to the original song and add a sprinkle of video of the wedding too. The result is a pop-wedding music video.
Marryoke Wedding Videos are fun to make and watch. We have noted that it is only right for some weddings as the Bride, Groom and Guest have to all be keen to appear on camera miming and dancing!. A Marryoke requires ALL the guests to get in to the spirit of the video and have fun and if they do the result are brilliant (take a look at some of our previous Wedding Marryoke videos here
Wedding Videos are too expensive!
We are pretty sure that the cost of a professional Photographer will be as much, if not more than our costs. If we were to compare the two, we have a greater amount of equipment to buy and upkeep and the editing of a wedding video takes quite a bit of time too.
There are always people who can do things cheaper and that is the same more most things. We believe our price reflects the quality of the product we create, so if you are paying less, we may not be talking apple with apples.
Why should we have a Wedding Video?
You will only get Married once, Just like getting photography as a memory of the day, a video is one too. Video captures much more that a photograph can; it conveys emotions, sound, the vows, the giggles and looks. Not having a Wedding Video is the Number One regret from couples asked after their Wedding Day- Here is a great article from The Knot on the subject. You should always have a record of the day. Whilst it is lovely to provide a Photobooth and an Ice Cream Cart at your wedding for the guests to enjoy, the memory of them will fade quickly - the memory of your wedding on video is a keepsake for ever! (A typical cost for these two items is similar to the cost of a wedding video package)

Are you Insured?
Yes, We have public liability Insurance. We can provide the details if you require - just ask.
Can I use Commercial music (pop songs) in my video?
You can have copyright music in a Wedding Video. We purchase a licence on your behalf that allows popular music to be used for the distribution of a limited quantity of USB's/DVD to you. Alternatively we can use Licensed Music (paid for music). Either way, its all included in our costs.
How long does it take to produce a Wedding Video? We like to work quickly when it comes to editing. We do not feel it is good practice to have to wait a long time (months in some cases). We aim to have your Wedding Reel or Marryoke ready to view in about 7 days from your Wedding - perfect if you are heading away on Honeymoon, it will be ready for your return. Where you have chosen a package that means we have recorded your Wedding Ceremony, Speeches etc, the whole package will be ready with 2-3 weeks.
Do you Travel to film Weddings?
We travel within 100 miles/2 hour radius of Harrogate without any extra charge. For locations further afield travel and accommodation costs will be incurred, but we are very happy to travel.
How do I book Red Lime for my Wedding Video?
Booking is easy! Email us at: hello@red-lime.co.uk to check we are available for your Wedding Date. We will let you know and send you a replay very quickly. Then you just need to fill in the Booking From and make a payment to confirm the date in our Diary. Bookings are only confirmed when payment has been received.
Do you have examples of your previous Wedding video work?
You can find examples of our Wedding Videos on either YouTube or Vimeo. Click those link to take you to our pages.
I only want part of my wedding day filmed - can you do that?
If you only want us to film part of your Wedding Celebrations, we are happy to discuss this with you and provide you with a price reflective of the amount of time you want us. Similarly, If you wanted us for two or more days, that can be accommodated too.
Can I pay in installments?Yes. After the Booking payment has been made you can pay whatever and whenever you want. All we ask is that the final payment is made no later then 7 days before the Wedding.
Can we meet you before the Wedding?
We always arrange to meet our Bride and Grooms before the Wedding. If you want to meet us before you Book us, that can be arranged, but in most cases we will arrange to meet you about a month before your Wedding. This is an ideal time to discuss timings of your day; as most things have been confirmed. If you have a photographer booked, we like to get their details so we can say 'hi' them. If your Ceremony is in a Church, we like to chat to the person who will be marrying you, so we can discuss any placement of cameras with them.
If you have any other questions, please just contact us. We love to chat and are very friendly.

Cinematic Wedding Video verses Documentary Style - what's the difference?

Cinematic Wedding Video verses Documentary Style
- what's the difference?

Choosing a wedding videographer to film the most special day of your life is a decision that should be taken with the same care and research as you would with choosing your dress, rings, cake and venue; get inspiration and ideas and see what best suits your style and budget.
Whilst some people may have been recommended a certain wedding video company, many have not and it is to those people this Blog article is aimed.
A quick search on Google, Bing or any other search engine for say; 'yorkshire wedding videos', 'harrogate wedding videographer', or 'wedding videos' will provide you with a long list of companies who film wedding videos. A little clicking and reading their websites will provide you with examples of their work and maybe even prices.
One of the phrases Bride and Grooms may see appear on those websites is 'cinematic wedding video' or they may see 'documentary wedding video' used. These phrases are typically used to describe two very different styles of wedding video, but occasionally can be mixed together and thus become a little confusing. Let me explain the difference and why Red Lime use the phrase Cinematic Wedding video to describe what we do.
Cinematic Wedding Video
As the name suggests this style is trying the emulate the look of a film in its appearance. Many or all of the shots will be carefully framed, the lighting considered and when edited, the look and the way the story is told is designed to enhance the emotions of your wedding day. The wedding videographer will use shots that are not always of the people, but may include the details that make up your day; flowers, shoes, signs etc. The story may not be a linier one and instead cut back and forth to build the story and emotion and tell the story in a unique way.
Documentary Wedding Video
This style of wedding video typically results in a liner story of your day. What happens, in the order it happened. Often the framing and composition of the shots is less important and thus is more focused on capturing what happened. The style is people focused, and may include shots of the groups being photogaphed by the photographer as part of the story.
Let me explain with some examples
Take the example of say, Louis Theroux. In any of his documentaries, he is telling a story in a linier fashion (as he goes from place to place, person to person). The tv program is less concerned with creative shots and angles, lighting and composition than is it on telling the viewer the story.
Now lets consider a recent TV Drama; we could choose Broadchurch, Sherlock or many others. The story is important as it is in the documentary, but the viewer is taken on a visual journey too. Each shot is carefully crafted and often the aspect the director wants your attention on, is in focus - leaving the background out of focus. The reason for this 'shallow depth of field' (blurry background) is that it concentrates your attention, and helps build drama and tension.

So how does this work for Wedding video?
What you want from your wedding video depends on what you prefer; Documentary Wedding Video or Cinematic Wedding Video. Documentary style can easily be seen to work a Wedding day, but how do you film a cinematic wedding video if a tv drama is carefully planned out, has a huge budget and require re-takes?
It is a skill and experience that enables a wedding videographer to see the best angle, to see how the light is falling, and how to edit the results to archive a wedding video that reduces you to tears (good tears!)
Just like a good photographer can create an amazing shot from unexpected surroundings - its all about skill, creativity, and seeing beyond what is there.
Equipment also plays a part. whist not always the case, you typically find that wedding videos that are of a Documentary style are filmed with camcorders, whereas Cinematic Wedding Videos are filmed with DLSRs, Mirrorless Full Frame Cameras etc. Camcorders are quick, easy and have auto focus. They have a big depth of field too. By contrast DLSRs and Mirrorless cameras offer the wedding videographer full control over the shot in a way a camcorder simply cannot.
So where do they cross over?
A cinematic wedding video is often between 5-10 minutes long; long enough to capture your beautiful wedding day in a succinct format, that will be watched in full many times over. It's also easy to share - which is great for family and friends to watch online. Documentary wedding videos are likely to be 30-60 minutes in length - not as easy to share as the files are big and unlike the shorter cinematic style - may not always be watched in full, to the end or many times over.
Some wedding videographer's may offer an option of a 'documentary edit', and whilst their typical style is cinematic, they offer this by incorporating larger sections of footage from the ceremony and speeches etc. The finished video is visually very cinematic is style and is perfect for those looking for a longer form edit a great product - although it may be a costly choice.
Our approach at red lime is what we believe to be the best of both worlds.
We shoot and supply a Cinemetic style Wedding Reel video that is between 8-10 minutes in length. This provides a sharable video that showcases all of the day, the people, events and the stars - The Bride and Groom to their best. We find most of our Bride and Grooms also want a record of the Ceremony, Speeches and First Dance. So we film these parts of the day in their entirity and using multiple cameras. This gives the couple a special record of the vows they made surrounded by family and friends, the entertaining speeches without a word missing and that first dance as husband and wife. Without a doubt these parts of the day are special, but none more so than to the couple and there family.
Your Wedding is YOUR special day, We would love to be your first choice for your yorkshire wedding video, We are happy to customize our packages to fulfil your day, the way you would like.

What The Funk - Music Video Harrogate

What The Funk - Music Video

When you watch What The Funk live you quickly realise that they are not only very good musically, but also highly entertaining. I can now testify that they are equally entertaining when not performing, so making their latest music video a real pleasure us.
What The Funk (WTF) contacted Red Lime towards the end of 2016 to arrange a date to meet up and discuss their need for a music video. A date was set just into the New Year at a Restaurant where they proposed we film.
The meeting went well, with plenty of ideas being thrown back and forth as we enjoyed a really rather good quality coffee (I love decent coffee). The band had arranged for the restaurant to be the venue to film their video. It was a great choice; lovely bare brick, exposed pipes and reclaimed wood decor that lent itself well to their style. We were to have a closed set, after hours with as much time as required to film.
Filming was already set for two days away, not a problem, except that the collective discussions lead to the decision to mix together three or four tracks to showcase them best over using one track- but the track did not yet exist!
Again, for Red LIme, this is not a problem. My son (who often helps with filming for Red Lime) is also good at music production; he studied it. He set about carefully blending the music tracks to accomplish the desired result.

Filming DayOnce everyone's equipment was set up, I spoke to everyone about how I would approach filming the video and then we were off. Filming, as I have already intimated was a entertaining. Lots of jokes, laughter and fun filled the air both between and during takes. The band were receptive to direction and more ideas for shots were thrown into the mix as we went. I have no problem with incorporating ideas on the fly - that's a challenge I love to accept. Sometimes you can see how an idea might fit into the video, and other times you have no idea...so, you just have to film it and figure it out in the editing.
This was true of the shot where the band decided to swap instruments and places. What started as a joke idea and a giggle, soon became something to add in the the video; but how was I going to integrate this? Well it made the cut if for no other reason than I felt it shows how the band are - entertaining!
With a series of memory cards full of video, the shoot was wrapped up in a little over three hours. With so much great footage, photogenic people and superb location, the choice of shots during editing was easy. A large sprinkle of Red LIme creativity and it was done. The reception on seeing it the first time from the band was 'WOW, cannot stop watching it' A few small adjustments and we went live later that evening.
The band contacted me about two hours after the video was live.. they had already had two new enquiries!
So if you have a band and are looking to get more bookings - you need a Professional Music Video - get in touch!

Creative and beautiful, cinematic wedding videos from Red Lime Harrogate

Creative and beautiful, cinematic wedding videos

Your Wedding is perhaps the single most exciting day of your life. Whilst a photograph is a beautiful memory of your precious day, only a video can
truly take you back to that day and let you experience all the emotions and hear those words and laughter you shared.
There is so much happening on your special day that it is impossible for you to see or even remember all those moments. Those nervous giggles and looks
that the Bride and Groom have as they prepare for the big day - unlikely even to be captured by friends and family either - that's why we know that
to truly capture a memorable record of your day, we need to be there from the start.
Our filming style is discreet, we aim to blend into your wedding and capture the day authentically but using our creative eyes to make each and every
shot amazing. The result is a genuine record of your day - in glorious vivid colour and HD quality
Our Highlight Reel films tell the story of your day using all the absolute best and creative shots. Set to a backdrop of music and audio from your day,
we feel this is the only way to truly remember the best day of your life.

Why you SHOULD consider having a Wedding Videographer

Wedding videos are the future of enjoying your Wedding Day and remembering it for years to come. Many people will be familiar with those horribly long videos, shaky camera, poor lighting and no story-telling that were how a Wedding was captured in the 1980's and 1990's. Thankfully things have moved on in Wedding Video filming making, leading to emotive and elegant storytelling presented in incredible quality and detail.
These days, cameras are small, neat and very powerful. Capable of super high quality cinematic footage. Couple this with a skilled and creative wedding videographer and just like your wedding photos, the results are breathtaking.
But unlike a Wedding Photographer, Videography for Weddings is often overlooked. Deciding to hire the services of a Wedding Videographer does not appear on just about every Bride and Grooms list of things they need when they are planning the wedding - unlike having a Photographer. Aside from this re-education that needs to take place,, couples sometimes put aside any proposed suggestion for choosing a wedding videographer for a number of reasons. Let me try explain why you should be getting Red Lime (or at least a professional wedding videographer) to film your Wedding Day.
No movement or sound in photographs
Photographs are awesome, vibrant and look great framed. Some photographers are highly creative and make your day look like it stepped of the pages of Vogue or any fashion magazine, The one thing, even a fantastic photographer cannot capture in a photograph is the sound and movement of the day. Those 'I do' words at the alter, the giggles, laughter, speeches and interactions but mostly the emotion.
Great to share with family and friends who cannot make your Wedding Day
Video is great to share with your family and friends. You may have family and friends who cannot make your magical wedding day, Video puts them in the premium seat to enjoy watching how your Wedding Day unfolded. You can share it online easily - great for Facebook sharing, or simply sending them a link in a message... and we still do traditional copies on DVD to share too!

'I'll ask a friend to film it'
You may think that letting a family friend video the day is best because its cheaper. As a guest, their attention will be drawn between enjoying your wedding and remembering to film it, so they might not get the best shots or the important ones. They won't have arranged with the Vicar to be near the front at the Ceremony and often are not there when you are doing hair and make up - so they are potentially missing so much of you Wedding Day. Their sound recording might well be 'on-camera' and likely not to be clear to hear. Unless your friend is a professional video editor, your wedding film may only be a selection of clips of the day struck together.
Professional Expertise
As a Professional Wedding Videographer, we film many, many weddings a year. This means we have a very good understanding of how the days events will unfold. We are there in professional capacity, so our focus is on being in position to capture the events and not miss any of them. Using professional equipment and editing software, coupled with our creative eye we can edit the footage filmed at your Wedding to tell your story.

It's not as expensive as you might think.
Many people think that having their Wedding Filmed is costly. We are only as expensive as a Photographer, which is pretty good value, considering we typically have a greater work load editing after the event. When you consider that if you chose to have a Photobooth and an Ice Cream Cart at your wedding, that is about the same cost as a wedding Videographer - and how many times have you seen those at a recent wedding? That's not to say you should not have those items - you and your guests will love them, but what has a longer lasting memory for you and everyone? Will you tell your children how amazing your Photobooth and Ice Cream was at your Wedding?

Those special words at the Ceremony.
Even with our Marryoke packages we are more often than not, are asked to film the Wedding Ceremony and Speeches in Full - there has to be a reason why Brides and Grooms want to re-live these part of the day. It may be that it goes so quickly and the memory is blur,.It could be that those moments saying the vows are what the day is all about. One thing for sure, you will want to hear and watch them. We carefully plan to ensure we have the best seat in the house to see your faces and record those words - clearly!

The biggest regret
Remarkably, not having their Wedding filmed is the number one regret of Brides and Grooms when asked after their wedding what they wished they had done different.. These statistics are available online and stand as a testament to why you should not make the same mistake. Your Wedding Day will only happen once.
My Photographer will take some video
Whilst video and photography use the same or very similar equipment and skills, juggling the two is destined to produce poor results. The photographer is there to photograph your Wedding and that is his or her primary task. Making the setting changes to record video, means they are not taking photos. They physically cannot record video and take photos at the same time. You cannot go for a re-take or rewind to capture the events again for video after the photos have been taken, so there WILL be lots of things they will not capture.
Photographers at best may catch a few clips, but they are very unlikely to be the key parts of your day. They typically won't have the correct software to edit the footage, so what you get will not be the same. Unless the photographer has an assistant who is skilled and experienced in filming, whatever you get may only equate to the amount of money you have paid for it.
U-Film-it
This business model first appeared a few years ago. The idea is you pay a fee to hire a number of video cameras. You get your guests to film the day then return the cameras to the company for them to edit your Wedding Film. The idea sounds great, but what are the pit-falls?

Your guests are not professionals, so the quality (regardless of the quality of cameras) will no-doubt be quite erratic and shaky. The audio will not be crystal clear. You are unlikely to have footage of Bridal preparations and perhaps only breif clips of things like the Ceremony. Even if someone does film some of the Ceremony, will they be from a great angle and capture the key moments? Finally there is a HEAVY penalty for damaged cameras. Your guest will be having a great time on your Wedding Day, drinks will flow and accidents can happen. With a Professional videographer filming your Wedding, we are Insured not only for our own equipment but Public Liability too.

At the end of it all, you get what you pay. Your Wedding budget is not infinite, so you have to make decisions that feel right for you. We would love you to choose decide to have your wedding filmed, especially if you chose Red Lime to do it. If you have any questions regarding our services, please email or call. We promise to give you the best advice we can and defiantly will not give pressure you or hassle you to make any decisions.
Your Wedding won't happen again, so make it the best and happiest day of your lives!
